THE UNITED NATIONS MEDAL (UNAMIC)

Obverse: The United Nations global projection emblem, above which are the letters "UN".

Reverse: Plain, with the legend "IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE".

Size: 35mm in diameter.

Ribbon: 35mm wide, the ribbon for this medal has 7mm light blue edges, inside of which are 4mm red stripes and 1mm yellow stripes. Inside of these is a 10mm dark blue stripe, in the centre of which is a 2mm white stripe. Ninety days of service in the Mission was necessary to qualify for award of the medal.

Suspension: The ribbon is threaded through a 12mm diameter ring, which passes through a loop fixed to the top of the piece. The ring will move forwards and backwards.

United Nations Advance Mission in Cambodia, October 1991 to 15 March 1992. UNAMIC was to do the groundwork for the establishment of a much larger United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia. New Zealand contributed mine awareness training teams to the operation. The responsibilities of UNAMIC were taken over by UNTAC in March 1992.
