THE UNITED NATIONS MEDAL (UNMOGIP)

Obverse: The United Nations global projection emblem, above which are the letters "UN".

Reverse: Plain, with the legend "IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE".

Size: 35mm in diameter.

Ribbon: 35mm wide, the ribbon for this medal has 4mm light blue stripes at each edge. Next to these are 2mm white stripes with the centre of the ribbon being green. The white and green colours are shaded. Six months of service in the Mission was necessary to qualify for award of the medal.

Suspension: The ribbon is threaded through a 12mm diameter ring, which passes through a loop fixed to the top of the piece. The ring will move forwards and backwards.

United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan, 24 January 1949 to present. Set up with the function of supervising, in the State of Jammu and in Kashmir, the cease-fire between India and Pakistan, the maximum strength of UNMOGIP is 102 personnel, with 5 casualties being suffered to June 1990. New Zealand had military observers attached with this force between 1952 and 1976.
